Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The government has reportedly put the Dual Nationality Bill into cold storage after its failure to win the support of coalition partners.

The government has admitted before ANP, PML-Q and FATA lawmakers that the bill was brought at the desire of MQM, sources told CNBC.

The ruling PPP said it is not possible to get the bill passed without the opposition’s support for necessary constitutional amendment.

Apart from the MQM, other allies have voiced their opposition to the proposed bill, prompting the government to shelve the plan.

The National Assembly Standing’s Committee has also not summoned its meeting to discuss the bill. CNBC
