ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered emergency measures to overcome the crippling power crisis.

This order was issued at a high-level meeting, presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari today (Tuesday).

According to sources, President Zardari was briefed about the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Monday regarding the energy crisis.

It was decided that emergency measures would be taken to overcome the power shortfall.

The meeting decided to clear circular debts of power firms and boost recoveries from Wapda’s defaulters. It also decided to immediately cut the power connections of companies and individuals who were not paying their bills.

Finance Minister Abdul Hafiz Sheikh briefed the meeting about its financial issues while Dr Asim explained reasons for low power generation. CNBC
